SayHiLi.com assessed the trifecta pools for Magic City Jai-Alai versus Dania Beach Jai-Alai for the first 3-weeks in October for 2019 and 2020 and found some interesting trends. Trifecta pools are up 7.4% in 2020 compared to 2019 for Magic City Jai-Alai while trifecta pools are down 6.4% for Dania.

One notable difference from 2020 versus 2019 is the reduced impact of schedule overlap where both frontons play games at the same time. This could certainly explain why the pools have improved for Magic City Jai-Alai, but doesn’t explain why the trifecta pools are lower for Dania.

The average $1 trifecta payoffs over these time periods are very similar for both frontons for 2019, $204.70 for Magic City versus $207.10 for Dania. The payoff trend has a larger spread for the first 3-weeks in October 2020. The average $1 trifecta payoff for Magic City was $198.80 while the Dania average for the same period was $257.00. The high Dania average for the first 3-weeks of the meet means the Dania handicappers are having a harder time handicapping the games, likely due to the unusual lengthy period where there were no Jai-Alai games played at Dania between March 15 and October 1 this year. Some of the Dania players may be having a hard time getting back into the routine of playing regular games, plus many were likely hit with covid-19, as were Magic City players, which may be having an impact on the abilities of some players, adding to the Dania handicapping difficulties. Regardless of the reason for the larger Dania payoffs, larger payoffs mean less winners and “the churn” of the money going back into the trifecta pools lessens, which is likely the reason for the trifecta pool reduction. Note: SayHiLi.com has incomplete trifecta pool data for the 4th week of 2019 for both frontons so the comparison had to be limited to the first 3-weeks.

The average $1 trifecta price for Magic City in the 4th week of October in 2020 was $246.50 while the Dania 4th week average was $224.50. The 2020 season average $1 trifecta price at Magic City Jai-Alai for the 1,348 games played to-date from May 1 through October 18 is a respectable $208.30.
