Tuesday, June 22nd concluded another week of the fast-action short-court Jai-Alai with Magic City professional Jai-Alai player El Barba dominating the Golden Cesta Award with his 7-wins for the week. Professionals Douglas and Julen were 2nd in the chase for this prestigious award with 4-wins each. This was El Barba’s 5th Golden Cesta Award at Magic City since week 11 of 2018 when SayHiLi’s statistician started tracking this prestigious award. There are only 2-players with more GC Awards at Magic City; Douglas with 25 and RonRon with 15. Congratulations El Barba for your hard work and this great accomplishment!
The 2021 regular season Singles Championship is turning out to be a contentious battle with lead changes happening regularly. Currently there are 8-players with 20-29 singles wins. Julen leads this group with 29 wins, Ben has 28, Anderluck and RonRon 26, El Barba 25, Benny 24, Ikeda 23, and Douglas has moved-up with 20 wins. There is another group of 3-players not far behind with 15-17 singles wins. Kubala and Spinner top this second group with 17 and Tennessee has 15-wins. The remaining players have 10-wins or less. Douglas took over the lead in highest win percent for the regular season with 25.0%. Top Magic City professional, Douglas (Matt Langhans) missed a large portion of the previous 2021 10-week mini season due to a wrist injury. Congratulations Douglas on this regular season accomplishment!
The second 2021 Doubles Tournament of the year is still being dominated by 3-teams. Cool Fitness-Spinner have 19-wins and lead two other strong teams; Kubala-Benny with 15-wins and Carballo-Tennessee with 13-wins. The team of El Barba-Ikeda are 4th with 8-wins, Diaz-Douglas 5th with 7-wins and Jeden-Julen 6th place with 6-wins. The team of Kubala-Benny have a large lead in the ITM category with 58% while the win leader team of Cool Fitness-Spinner have a 48.7% ITM. The third place win leading team of Carballo-Tennessee have a 42.3% ITM while 5th place team of Diaz-Douglas are 3rd in ITM with 44.4%. The Juice-RonRon team are the only other team with higher than 40% ITM with 42.1% for their 19-appearances. Juice has not been playing long as he had been recovering from knee surgery.
The Jai5 Jackpot wager was hit twice during Week 8 and both Jackpot scores were made on Tuesday. The Tuesday Mat-1 performance Jai5 was hit for a $1 price of $7,272.80 which was the 4th largest Jai5 payoff in Magic City history. The Jai5 was hit again by a lucky bettor at the Mat-2 for the minimum guarantee of $2,000. Note that both the Jai5 and the Mighty Ocho will be Force-Outs on Sunday’s 1-pm performance on June 27th.
Week 9 kicks-off on Saturday, June 26th, with a 4-pm performance where live fans are allowed in the fronton. Seating starts at 3:30 pm.
