Lucky Bettor Nails the Mighty Ocho for Cool $5,000

Magic City’s version of a Pick 8 Jackpot Wager, called the Mighty Ocho, was successfully won by one single winning ticket for the $5,000 guaranteed minimum jackpot at Monday’s Mat-2 performance at 4:30-pm on June 14, 2021. At least one Jai-Alai fronton had a Pick 8 type wager over the years and this is the first time this amazing feat has been successfully accomplished by picking all 8-correct winners for the 8-game sequence. Palm Beach Jai-Alai had a $50,000 guaranteed Pick 8 wager in the early 1990’s where the winner(s) successfully picking all 8-winners would split $50,000. This was not a Pick 8 “Jackpot” wager like Magic City where the bettor has to be the ONLY winner successfully picking all 8-winners. The term “Jackpot” in the pari-mutuel industry implies one has to be the ONLY winner to secure the entire jackpot.

There was a total of $76 wagered on the Mighty Ocho for the Monday twilight performance. This Jackpot wager had grown to $1068.80 since the start of the 2021 regular season before it was successfully won for the guaranteed $5,000 minimum at the second performance of Monday’s double-header.

SayHili is aware of a regular Mighty Ocho bettor who had the first 6-winners on a 1-ticket wager costing $48 and needed the ending 48 / 2 for the last two legs to have all 8-winners correct. The 8-post of Kubala-Benny lost a game point in the 7th game for that bettor to have all 8-winners as Douglas from post 2 won the final game. The post 3 team of Carballo-Tennessee foiled that bettor’s ticket by winning the 7th leg of this “mighty difficult” wager. The game 7 trifecta result was 3-8-4.

Bettors have previously come close to successfully picking all 8-winners of this challenging wager on three different occasions with 7 of the 8 winners since the Mighty Ocho was introduced at the start of the 2020 season. SayHiLi has knowledge of one unlucky bettor who had 7 of 8 winners correct on one of those three occasions and lost a game point scenario when the player they needed over-served. Monday was the first time a bettor has successfully picked the first 7-winners going into the final leg. Magic City announcers Stu and Andrew were surprised to see one lucky bettor had a shot at the guaranteed $5,000 and had to do a “double-take” to make sure their eyes weren’t toying with them.

Congratulations to the $5k winner of this challenging wager! You now hold a place in Jai-Alai pari-mutuel history for successfully nailing the most difficult wager ever and may very well hold this coveted title for Jai-Alai eternity. Well done!
