Week 7 Battle Court Update

What an exciting week of play it was with 4 of 5 matches on Sunday going 3 sets and the 4 of 5 matches on Tuesday going 3 sets. My wife, son and I were fortunate enough to be in the fronton on Sunday. Some friends from Illinois were also able to come down and enjoy the action. If you have not seen the action live, it is even faster than watching online. In addition to the exciting action, we met several players (Benny, CRB, El Barba and Roque) as well as Andrew’s parents. A Big Thank You to Stu, Andrew, Nate K and the entire Magic City crew that makes this amazing sport happen. I also got to say hello to Scott Savin.

The Cyclones remain in first place earning 4 points for the week going 2-2 including 1.5 points in a doubles match forfeit from Diaz & Bradley. Carballo picked up his 5th singles win beating Julen in a 3 set match (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) to lead the singles standings at 5-0. Carballo later teamed with Manu in doubles to earn a convincing victory over Inaki & Julen (6-0, 6-1).

The Renegades remain in second place and earned 4 points with a singles win by Ben over CRB of the Chargers  (4-6, 6-2, 6-2). The doubles team of Goixerri & Kubala improved to 3-2 with a 3 set victory over Jairo & Benny of the Chargers (0-6, 6-2, 6-0). Vuelo & Aratz won in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) against Correa & Roque of the Renegades.

The Warriors earned 4 points in singles play. Inaki earned his first singles win of the season with a 3 set victory over Manu of the Cyclones (5-6, 6-5, 6-4). Bradley improved to 4-1 with a straight set victory over CRB of the Chargers (6-5, 6-1). Bueno won in 3 sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-5) with a win over Correa of the Chargers. While the Chargers remain in 4th place, they went 5-5 for the week to earn 6 points.
